Even if you are heading to the place that you head to every year, check your primary route and come up with some alternate routes to make sure you can get where you want to go even if there is an accident or inclement weather. Check for things that will slow you down such as road construction. Make sure you understand any detours or plan an alternate route to your destination.
Plan for Stops
While you are inspecting your routes, plan to make regular stops throughout the day so you and your family can get out of the BMW and stretch your legs. You can select roadside attractions or other fun things to do to give you and your family a break. Driving straight to a destination without any stocks can be dangerous because you could become fatigued behind the wheel.
Stay Hydrated
Make sure to stay hydrated with plenty of water. Coffee, tea, and soda does not hydrate you as well as water does. Because you are planning to stop along the way, you need to worry about drinking too much water; you can go to the restroom when you are at a stop. Keep the family hydrated, as well. Dehydration can cause confusion and mood swings.
Eat Healthy
Don’t load up on junk food while you are on the road. Make sure to eat healthy throughout the day so that you don’t become fatigued from a sugar crash. You do not want to load up on fatty foods, either, because they can make you sleepy behind the wheel.
